Meaning
Pyrite meaning
Strike pyrite against steel and it throws sparks, which is why its name comes from pyr, the Greek for fire; its pale brassy shine earned it the nickname fool’s gold. Fittingly for a stone that often grows as near-perfect cubes, the KUSHA canon gives it a structured, disciplined character: a stone for will, decisiveness and confidence that needs no raised voice. It belongs to the Solar Plexus chakra, and the canon sums up its work as building an inner backbone.
The canon’s ritual is brief: hold pyrite over the upper belly, breathe firmly and say, “My power is clear and clean.” Those who give way too easily, who second-guess their decisions or who want steadier footing as they step into leading others are the people it is meant for. On short-tempered, irritable or high-pressure days its heat works against you, so give it a rest until things cool.
We share these associations as tradition, not as a promise of results.
Care
How to cleanse and care for pyrite
Best ways to cleanse it: Selenite plate · Smoke · Sound
| Method | Can it bear it? | In our practice |
|---|---|---|
| A brief rinse | AvoidAn iron sulphide: water and damp make pyrite tarnish and rust. | We skip it |
| A bed of salt | AvoidSalt holds damp, which corrodes pyrite. | We skip it |
| Morning sun | YesKeep the resin chip pyramids out of strong sun. | Not usually |
| Moonlight | Yes | We skip itIn the KUSHA chakra system, Solar Plexus stones skip evening moonlight. |
| Smoke | Yes | We use it |
| Sound | Yes | We use it |
| A selenite plate | Yes | We use it |
We use it: named for this stone in our canon. Not usually: safe for the stone, but not a method we name for it. We skip it: our practice keeps it away.
Pairings
What pyrite sits well with
From the KUSHA canon, the stones most often set beside it.
Kept apart from citrine, hydro citrine, carnelian, sunstone and tiger’s eye. Both are warming activators, and KUSHA pairing law 14 rules out two activators in one set. Wear one at a time.
At home
Where to keep pyrite
- Desk
Better kept away from the bedroom.
A note of care
Before you use it
A warming activator: set it aside when you feel angry, anxious, irritable or under heavy stress.
Real or fake
Is my pyrite real?
We sell pyrite as natural, and your lab certificate comes with your order.
- Pyrite is too inexpensive to be worth faking, so the real question is whether a piece is solid: chips bound in resin and lacquered pieces are common.
- Solid pyrite is startlingly heavy and cold for its size, a pale brass rather than the warm yellow of gold.
- Natural cubes often carry fine parallel lines that turn at right angles from face to face.
- A piece that feels light and warm, with a plastic gloss between the grains, points to resin.
