Meaning
Sapphire meaning
Second only to diamond in hardness, sapphire is a variety of corundum whose classic blue comes from traces of iron and titanium. Crystal tradition links it with the Third Eye and Throat chakras and with cool, principled judgement, often choosing it for integrity, composed speech and patient decisions. In Vedic astrology it is known as neelam, and in that tradition it is worn only on an astrologer’s advice.
Our collection notes describe pieces made for the desk and shelf rather than graded stones for a ring, at home on a work desk, a bookshelf or a study altar. Those who come to it usually want calmer judgement, patience and a measured way with words. In a very stressful stretch, the notes suggest giving it a rest and returning to it later.

Is my sapphire real?
Most sapphire on the market is heated to improve its colour, a standard trade practice. We sell sapphire as natural, and your lab certificate comes with your order.
- Most sapphire in the trade is heated to improve its colour, and lab-grown sapphire and blue glass are common imitations.
- With a loupe you may find fine silky needles and straight, angular bands of colour in natural stones, while curved colour lines or round bubbles point to lab-grown stone or glass.
- Carved or rough natural sapphire is often cloudy and patchy in colour, which is normal for the material.
