Meaning
Optical Crystal meaning
Optical crystal is clear, high-grade glass cut into crisp facets, so that sunlight passing through it breaks into spectrum colours. Here the word crystal is the glassmaker’s term for fine, very clear glass rather than a mineral, and no part of it is natural stone. Our collection notes give it no chakra, element or planet: its whole purpose is light.
Hung in a window that catches direct sun, it scatters small rainbows over walls and floors on bright days. Glass can also concentrate sunlight, so choose a spot where nothing nearby, such as a curtain, could scorch. Its pleasures are decorative, which makes it a joyful present for anyone who loves light moving through a room. If you want a natural stone to hold in meditation, clear quartz is the mineral to look for.
Not yet profiled in the KUSHA canon: these notes come from our collection notes and crystal tradition.
Care
How to cleanse and care for optical crystal
| Method | Can it bear it? | In our practice |
|---|---|---|
| A brief rinse | BrieflyCut glass takes a quick rinse; keep water off the metal fittings and avoid harsh glass cleaners. | We skip itOur practice keeps water cleansing for a few named stones only. |
| A bed of salt | BrieflyPure salt is softer than glass, but grit in coarse salt can scratch it; keep salt off the metal fittings. | We skip itOur product care keeps finished pieces off salt. |
| Morning sun | BrieflyA cut prism throws rainbows in the sun but can also focus light, so never leave it in strong sun near curtains or anything that can scorch. | Not usually |
| Moonlight | YesBy a window, for three to five hours only. | Not usually |
| Smoke | Yes | Not usually |
| Sound | Yes | Not usually |
| A selenite plate | Yes | Not usually |
We use it: named for this stone in our canon. Not usually: safe for the stone, but not a method we name for it. We skip it: our practice keeps it away.
Real or fake
Is my optical crystal real?
Optical crystal is precision-cut man-made glass, not natural quartz. We sell it as glass, in plain words, and your lab certificate comes with your order.
- Optical crystal is glass, so the question is quality, not authenticity.
- A good piece is water-clear, with sharp facet edges, an even polish and no bubbles, haze or ripples, and it throws bright, crisp rainbows in direct sun.
- Being glass, it takes on the warmth of your hand faster than quartz would, and if it is ever offered as natural quartz, the label is wrong.
Asked about optical crystal
Optical Crystal, answered
Can optical crystal go in water?
Not in our practice. Our practice keeps water cleansing for a few named stones only. The stone itself takes a brief rinse.
Can optical crystal go in the sun?
It can. A cut prism throws rainbows in the sun but can also focus light, so never leave it in strong sun near curtains or anything that can scorch. It is not one of the methods we name for optical crystal, so we do not usually use it.
Can optical crystal be cleansed on salt?
Not in our practice. Our product care keeps finished pieces off salt. The stone itself takes only short contact with salt.
